Gay community became more apparent that was slowly on the contest stage in recent years. In 2012, and the two openly gay contestants competed for the title of Miss California USA "(though neither eventually won). In 2014, the former Miss Kentucky came out after competing for the title of Miss America.

"Behind the scenes, we've been well represented, but I'm the reigning first openly gay, so I'm very excited," said Irene "ABC". "I knew going in that I had the opportunity to make history. Now I get to be more visible to the community and meet more people. "

This is the coolest news coming out of the Miss world since the United States banned the Miss Teen bikini contest in favor of athlisori. Lets see if Erin could make history again by winning the whole thing this week. The competition will air live on 11 September at 9 p.m. EST on ABC.
